The Shire of Exmouth was delighted to have Maggie Dent visit Exmouth to share her parenting knowledge and expertise with local families. Bestselling parenting author, podcast creator and educator Maggie Dent shared her ‘From the Sandpit to Adulthood’ and ‘Navigating Life’s Challenges’ parenting seminars across two free community events.
After the initial event sold out within days, Maggie Dent generously agreed to deliver a second session in support of the current recovery process post TC Narelle. Both events were held at the Ningaloo Centre on Thursday 11 and Friday 12 June 2026, hosted by the Shire of Exmouth in collaboration with Parenting Connection WA- Gascoyne at Ngala. The Shire remains committed to creating opportunities that strengthen parenting confidence and community wellbeing, and Dent’s visit provided families with valuable access to practical resources, supportive networks and strategies designed to build resilience, particularly for families in a remote location.
During the events, Maggie Dent shared practical knowledge, parenting techniques, and advice across the exploration of 10 keys to parenting. The free parenting events were complemented by a free movie screening of the transformative documentary ‘SEEN’ on 4 June 2026 at the Ningaloo Centre, introduced with a panel discussion hosted by Councillor Kristy Devereux. The panel included local parenting knowledge holders from key family service providers and community organisations. Maggie Dent also kindly donated a number of her books to the Exmouth Library to enable Exmouth families to continue to access her resources and knowledge for free.
Following Cyclone Narelle, Maggie Dent was particularly interested in offering her support to the families within the Exmouth community as long-term cyclone recovery continues to progress.
Maggie Dent said:
Parents are the people that their kids want to lean on as a safe base; you are their anchor. So, my goal is to share with you some simple techniques and practical strategies for managing the anxiety and trauma that can come up after a disaster (for you and your kids), and to help you to help your kids feel safe. Research shows that it is our sense of belonging that helps us to heal faster, so I look forward to gathering with the local community in Exmouth to support taking another step towards recovery and healing.
The Shire of Exmouth Community Development team works to deliver our community with opportunities to access resources and events that enrich the lives of our residents from the eldest through to the youngest.
